I insatlled the JJ NextGen J Query Slider, but implementation is very confusing. You also have to use the NextGen gallery plugin in conjunction.
I am looking to have a slideshow on my landing page. If anyone is even more familiar with JJ NextGen that can help I am very appreciative. I tried to even go to the developer's site, but it didn't help much. Thanks all!
There are a ton out there, but for just bare bones, stupid simple functionality I use WPCycle:

I'm sure others have their own suggestions as well so I'll leave it at that.

Thanks Eric. It looks good? Easy to use? I'm going to throw it in and see what happens.

You could check out Portfolio Slideshow as an alternative http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/portfolio-slideshow/ Same engine under the hood but better interface and more accessible support. Excellent support in fact, see his forum and the one on .org site. Naturally he prepare for paid version, let free version take care of most bugs, but he is good and consistent. And he made a 20min video on how-to http://vimeo.com/20679115 - which is for Pro version but much is the same. Good luck getting through that without getting bored :)
http://jquery.malsup.com/cycle/browser.html shows the effect that cycle can do. If you don't find the one you need in menus it is possible to add manually via shortcode.
http://codecanyon.net/category/plugins/wordpress/sliders loads of paid sliders but overkill if all you want is a simple/silent one like one of those 2 mentioned. Sugar slides and ubillboard looks nice :) Just don't pay a penny before you have checked support, how they support, comments - especially the latest. Now Mozilla and friends spit out browser faster and faster requirement for "update security" might increase and you will need authors to supply that. Also if site is not your own you don't want to appear like having messed up because IE10 breaks it. Seems like most of products on that stie think one on one support is best, via help desk/tickets or even direct log in to your site. Some like it, I don't :) Accumulated know-how, bug-reporting, brilliant requests beat that set up every day but those products that really are fantastic can pull it off I guess . Those in need of hmm updates will suffer. That is my belief. They can do what they want I think so you must check them out.

I use Ubillboard (mentioned above). It's OK, but no choice in transition length and preset slide displaytimes. No videos content in slides either, but then there's very few sliders that can include videos AND be smart enough to switch the videos off/pause when you cycle out of that slide. There was another thread a while back that mentioned Slidedeck.

They've got a free version, but for the features and multi-sites you're looking at $300 which is a pretty serious investment in a slider.

Sliders I use are SlideDeck and EasingSlider (Free) (http://www.easingslider.matthewruddy.com/). EasingSlider has a paid version: PremiumSlider (http://www.premiumslider.matthewruddy.com/).

deepsouth, seems you can change those presets in ubillboard - but you need to edit a php file. Check comments. You can always hack together solutions but should they count? If they said that yes for the time being you must change delays in a php, and obviously it is not optimal, we will add this shortly, it would be better. If there are no requests and directions to relevant lines in a php or js file for transitions length I am 99% sure you can hack that as well.
That ubillboard thread with 369 comments is not really worse than some others I have seen but of course it make an old mailing list appear intelligent. Forums ftw. Why they insist on that format is weird. Even if their intention is to keep it clean, mainly about buying, installing issues that won't hold up for long with less than 100% perfect products. I think it hurt sales but their problem. Some developers do have more informative webpages or other form of documentation. Others seem to think Codecanyons default setup is cool ;) This "checking out before paying up" can be easier said than done.

Reminds me of this All-in-one slider I would like to like, heh http://codecanyon.net/item/wordpress-anything-slider-banner-manager/229507 Note the credits at bottom. He made the front-end only and will rely on fixes etc. by those people - and other maintaining "core" code. Not necessarily a problem, his efforts can be out of this world, but click his twitter link. On release day of his paid slider he send out a thank you for your hard work to those coders. On release day! I am sure license will not stop him from using their stuff but there is something called good behavior. As important notice how they ignore him :) One of those people is member of Jquery team, the other 2 are in same league. And whole project is more or less a community thing based off that css-tricks site. Well, very unlikely they have ever had the wish of if only someone would take our code and make it in to a premium product - even better if done without telling us. Would be so great! We will surely line up in queue to buy it. Probably a good idea to ask first regardless of open source and what not. Speculations but until proven wrong, like one of them saying "Good luck, tell us if you need something done, I think he has something to prove.

This is awesome! Thanks all. I am going to mess around with all of these and see what works best for my site! Thanks again! The Catalyst community is great!

The Recent Posts Slider at
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/recent-posts-slider/
allows you to have excerpts, thumbnails or both...

You know, all this talk about sliders. I am really just looking for a slider that contains pictures that link to posts. I don't think I want to spend $300 dollars on a slider. It just seems that too many people online are creating products and charging obseen amounts of money for them. Catalyst aside, there is a lot of crap out there. I personally bought Market Samauri and I don't even use it! LOL.
Well I will experiment with all of the mentioned and see what works best. Thanks everyone!

Wise words. Learn how to wrap up a plugin and off some go. Must remember that plugin site on .org site is a repository with almost no rules or quality check. So exciting ;) Also why I have learned to look at support, attempts to find out who the developer is. I don't trust them out of the box. WP site could do a bit more to make easier. For example let you exclude all plugins not certified by author, not a stupid poll!, to be compatible with latest WP. Or highly advice them to give decent information so they can be evaluated properly by users. I don't buy the "it is free so don't complain" argument for wasting time on crap but that is another irrelevant topic I think.
No post without suggestions so now you are looking also check out Meteor Slides http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/meteor-slides/ Same engine as wp-cycle and portfolio show but may be it clicks better with you. None might be that great if you want content of slides to be posts with thumbnails, featured image, excerpts and what not. I will have to look but don't think Portfolio can even do text/description as an overlay on pic, is always under. Simple pic only and those mentioned are not the worst ;)
The slider you see on front page of Catalyst site is wp-cycle at work btw.
