Hi all

www.fleurieubirdwatchers.org

Here's a link to my second WordPress/Catalyst website. It's intended to be a simple website for a small group of birdwatchers in South Australia.

Your comments welcome. I probably can't change this site but I can take your comments on board for future sites.

Best wishes

RMW

Hey Ros.

The site looks great.

I was having a look on the Bird Sites page (being a fellow South Aussie I was interested to see where the sites are), and was thinking it'd be great if the map could be enlarged within the screen or printed or downloaded...

A bird head for the favicon would be nice touch...

Hmmm... was also thinking how inappropriate it is that the nickname for South Australians is 'Crow Eaters'. Surely to a Bird watcher that's a little offensive no..? LOL.

Look forward to seeing some more of your sites...

Thanks for your feedback. I particularly like your suggestions re the map. I'm not sure how to implement your suggestions, so . . .

To enlarge, do I need a larger file? The one I have is only 596 x 422 pixels.
To print, do I need a script of some sort or can I get away with a link to a page that has only the map file on it?
To download, can I get away with a pdf icon and a link to it?

With the Map, you'll really need a higher quality source image to begin with. If the client can get you something larger then you could use a lightbox plugin so that when it's clicked it opens up full size in a darkened window. A few of those plug-ins have a print feature in them too I'm pretty sure. No point trying to enlarge the image you've got... the detail is just not there.

Re the download, yes, the simplest would be to insert a PDF version with the 'add media' button, then have anchor text like "Download map" linking directly to the file. That's how i do the downladable tasting notes on this site here (http://www.schildestate.com.au/barossa-shiraz). Super easy and low tech but effective and reliable.

Thanks again Ben. Will talk to the group about it and see if they've got a bigger file I could use.
