Personal development and counselling site: clean and simple

    iainmackenzieltd.co.uk

As a newbie, I really appreciated the video tutorials and, in particular, the advice to keep it clean and simple. A bit like me...:-) Still a way to go but very pleased so far. Any suggestions from the more experienced would be appreciated.

    Hey Iain,

Love it! Like you said, nice and simple, but just the right amounts of highlights and branding to give it a professional look. Great job!

The only thing I noticed is that for some reason your Footer is REALLY tall, with a bunch of white space. The default Footer Height Style is 100% so something must be triggering this to push the height higher than it should. Either way the simple fix is to go to Dynamik Options > Footer > Footer Height / Padding > Height and set that to a value of something like 32 give or take.

    Hey Eric

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. I really did miss the footer thing and its importance to the look too.

    Keep up the good work

    Hi Iain,

Nice and clean looking site - I know it's still early days but you could do with something to build an email list with - some kind of report/ebook/course or whatever to entice people to do something while on your site! It's great to have a nice looking site, but if people don't have any incentive to give you some of their details, you'll get lots of visitors who have a nice time but never translate into business.

Personal opinion warning! Once you get time, I'd suggest you make your main pages look more like main pages - the site has a blog feel to it, which is great for the article pages and such, but maybe would benefit from more of a page feel for the homepage and your main services pages.

Your page titles are not very search engine friendly - the homepage for example just has your business name - add in some keywords and more info to help the search engines know what you do.

As we're in a related industry, I'll pop a link to your site on my website for some nice google juice! Edit: Done - you can see it here!

Lastly, Find some people who do lots of surfing and buying on the internet (who aren't afraid to give you honest feedback) and see how they find your site!

On a totally unrelated topic... I came on the forum tonight to find out whether SEO Pressor was a investment for a plugin and also see if it worked well with Catalyst and I notice you are using it on your site! Any feedback about it? Thanks.

    Hi Dan

Thanks loads for the feedback and suggestions. One idea I had was to get people to sign in in order to download articles and info. Unfortunately, I didnt have much luck with the password plugin: any suggestions there would be appreciated.

Regarding SEO pressor. I am no expert Dan, but SEO pressor is right for me at my current level. I can use it to work on each page and like the level of input required. However, SEO has not been a priority for me lately and I have had no chance to test it in catalyst.... lets keep in touch to share future experiences

    Thanks again

    Hi Iain,

That's no problem! I'm thinking I'll probably get the SEO Pressor myself, so let me know if you have an affiliate link for it - you may as well have the commission!

For Membership Sites I use Wishlist Member (*affiliate link) which suits my needs. It's pretty handy and their support forum is not too bad. These things can be a bit complicated though, so bear in mind there's a learning curve! I also used S2Member plugin for a little while, can't exactly remember why I changed... I think that one might be free as well.

    Hi Dan

Thanks a lot for the info; I think I will try the freeby before investing in another lump sum but will let you know for sure if I use them (will use your affiliate link). I dont think I do have a link for SEO and not sure where to look??? so go ahead and if I find one I will zap it to you. Currently downloading s2member :-)

You know, Microsoft Security Essentials did the same. At the time I thought it was related to something else, but now that you mentioned this it must have been from their site.

So yes, you definitely want to get that checked out. Maybe contact your webhost.
