    Thoughts, Suggestions, Critique...

    Hi Guys,
    Here is my site... dentalcarematters.com

Now I have spent more time on the content (admittedly there's not a huge amount of it yet) at the expense of the design.
I am (or at least was) a complete novice.

Any suggestions to the design of the site is really, really appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,
    Barry

    HI Barry,

Nice, clean site. I like your favicon :-)

I hear that you have put a lot of time into the content. If you don't mind, I'll share a little proofreading on the first paragraph. It has the feel that it was translated from another language to English, but not by a native speaker.

    DentalCareMatters Home
    Welcome to DentalCareMatters.com

Dentalcarematters.com is a new website, dedicated to giving you all the information and advice you need to keep your mouth in healthy. Guiding you on how to look after your teeth and gums is our main aim.

"mouth in healthy", should be "mouth healthy", or "mouth in healthy condition".
I would say something like "Guiding you in looking after your teeth and gums is our main aim",
I would even prefer more casual wording like "Helping you look after your teeth and gums is our main aim".

Those are minor things, but it might be worth having someone do a proofreading pass once you are done!!
And, of course, other people will have other opinions too! but thought it might be helpful to look at that..
    Warmly,
    Evelyn

    Evelyn,
Thank you kindly for taking the time to make that feedback. I shall proof read the homepage now.
So stupid of me to spend so much time on the articles inside the site, and just spend a few minutes writing any old filler for the homepage!

    Again,
    Many thanks,
    Barry

    HI Barry,

Not stupid, just where your interests are!

If you want any other proofreading comments later, let me know..
I know sometimes it just takes another set of eyes.
After we read something so many times, we stop seeing it!

OK I'll throw in my 2 cents. The site design is nice and clean and navigation is good with wise use of breadcrumbs. Overall a nice look, good job. The photos on the home page look a little fuzzy/out of focus which spoil the effect a little. Maybe some nice stock images would be worth the small investment?

I'd add a couple of other things to look at:-

Your homepage has no Title - not good for SEO.

Your footer link to Catalyst is not an affiliate link which you might as well add if you are going to display it - Catalyst sells like hot cakes :-)

Your site could do with some security tweaks - see this forum thread:

It might be my "island time" connection but your site was very slow to load for me on my initial visit. You might want to do some checking with Firebug and page speed. Sexy Bookmarks was particularly laborious. Once it was in my browser cache it seemed a lot better. Like I say it could just be me.

    Guys,

Thank you kindly for the input. I'll get working on the recommendations.
Page speed is definitely something I need to get sorted.

Site has lots of great information. The drills bring up the relaxing sound of the drilling taking place..ouch..anyway..looks like lots of opportunities to monetize the site are there.

Nice layout and very informative. The colors are smartly done and should be calming to those seeking information, many who might be in crisis or some shade of agony!
