    WP-SpamFree Still Viable?

I'm putting together a business site and I would like to know if WP-SpamFree is still regarded as a good plugin even though it is no longer supported by Pole Position Marketing. Any issues with Wordpress 3.3.2?

    Thanks,
    Mike

As another alternative, anybody use Defensio?

First one seems like worst choice ever based on simple WP logic. Nothing hints you should even consider such an old dead plugin. Does it do much more than Growmap Anti Spambot http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...pambot-plugin/ anyway?

Defensio says "We go far beyond just spam" and they do, so not really same thing. But looks good, seems to be free for even business sites, up to 5 employees. With the above Spambot + Akismet or similar you wont see much automated spam either but Akismet is not free for business. And Defensio does more.

Sign up and evaluate + race around Google

WebSense http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Websense would not buy Defensio if it was crap. Worthy of research.

I find it a bit odd "only" 30000 seem to have installed this. There are problems or people just dont know about this free business service? If it turns out it works like crap on a WP site but technolgy from Defensio, or just the people, have helped WebSense in other ways dont fall off your chair. How it often goes...

If you dont care for anything but spam/noise then may be beneficial to understand logic behind this article from 2009 http://digwp.com/2009/11/dont-need-p...-comment-spam/ Nifty setup + Growmap or similar (like cookie control) and most nonsense is gone without causing doubts about blocking legit comments.

Also with old school logical tactic you avoid having to explain users they are being "tracked" or "monitored". Can be an issue depending on outlook on life and such. Akismet and other cloudy things should be avoided if so.

Another local solution http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/antispam-bee/ From this article http://www.dev4press.com/2011/blog/d...-need-akismet/

WP-SpamFree was one of the plugins compromised by malware ona site I recently had to 'cleanse'. Stay away from it.

Thanks. I've installed Defensio. The reason I asked about WP-SpamFree is because it was recommended along with Akismet in the Catalyst Theme Fast Start PDF.

I'd like to use spam-free regardless of the comments above. It continues to be updated (was updated today) and in the past I have found it to be a very useful form - and no spam.
I've taken out the Author and Email labels from the Core options >> Comment options but I can't seem to get the comment form to show up at all. Is there something special I need to do?

You must be thinking about Spam Free Wordpress http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...ree-wordpress/ which was updated today. Supposed to be very good.

Installed it, works. Both with own comment form and naitive Catalyst. Can do with some CSS fixes but not bad.

    Are you logged in?

    Thanks for the reply
I am logged in but I also tested from a remote VPS where I wasn't logged in - just in case LOL. If it works for you it's likely to be a plugin conflict. Damnit - I spent all morning sorting out a conflict, looks like it's all afternoon to sort out another one.

Adding to the whole complication I'm using WP Multisite too. This is supposed to MS compatible so i don't think that's the problem.
