    When to Use the Custom-Function.php?

    Hi!

I'm quite new here and was trying to figure out when is the proper time to use the custom-function.php
This file is mention quite often and still have no clue when to modify this file on my web development.

Any input would be a great help.

    Thanks

It is not a good idea to modify core files because they will be overwritten with any updates. So in the case of adding custom CSS, for instance, we have Advanced Options > Custom CSS. Likewise, when you need to add custom PHP you can add it to custom-functions.php as this file is safe from a Catalyst or WP update.

You can, however, also add custom PHP in other ways without needing to use that file. For instance you can add it to a Custom Hook Box or to a Custom Widget Area with a Catalyst PHP | Text Widget.
