My new site, and some questions
Hello,
I am new to WordPress and after struggling a few weeks with Thesis Framework, I am so glad I found Catalyst before my 30 days was up on Thesis! Here is what I have been working on, though it is mostly filler/dummy content for now: http://www.geekintheforest.com/
I made some attempts at getting it to be an elastic design like what I had done in Thesis. It seems to work, though I am not sure I did it all correctly.
I have a couple of questions and issues I have not been able to work out on my own...
First, when my page initially loads, I notice the wrap background color shows behind the content and sidebar areas and looks ugly as the page is loading. In other words, the display of the container wrap background is delayed so we see the main wrap color (dark) behind the content areas (white) until the page fully loads. Any way to prevent this?
One thing that I wondered about is that I tried to add a link in the text area for the Catalyst Author Bio widget, and it wouldn't convert the HTML to a link on the page. I had to switch to using a regular text widget. Would it be possible to enable HTML markup in the custom text portion of the author bio widget?
I've noticed that the Catalyst website and many other Catalyst-designed websites do not allow zooming on the iPad. This is really aggravating. So much so that I added a bookmarklet in mobile Safari to re-enable zooming. Responsive design is great and all, but taking away user options is not cool!
I overcame this partially on my own site by adding "user-scalable=yes" into the Viewport Meta tag. Now I am able to pinch-zoom on my site, but it still does not allow me to double-tap to zoom in on a column. How can I enable this on my site?
Thanks,

About the load delay/rendering delay or what it is a good guess could be one of your widgets. Amazon perhaps.
You will have to find out by doing some exclusion or before/after tests but should content in any widget block load you could try Lazy Widget Loader http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/lazy-widget-loader/ It works best if you set min. height same as height - hoping that content always has same height or trick fades out fast! But that way no sudden pushing down of content as widget renders. Space is reserved.
Under each widget there will be some settings, no more than he shows http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...r/screenshots/

Thanks. Yes, it was the Amazon widget, so I took it out for now. Was planning a separate shopping page for later anyway. If I decide to bring it back, I will look into the Lazy Widget Loader, though I wonder if it would be compatible with Display Widgets plugin I am using.
As for the zooming, Eric straightened that out with me in another thread in the bug reports section.

I think it is compatible as Display Widgets http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/display-widgets/ will kick in before Lazy Load. Will also be compatible if you use Custom Layout for special sidebars.
I think lazy loading is kind of annoying, also for images, but can be necessary fix if what ever 3rd party JS code is horrible, yet required.
If issue is a hosted image that take 5 secs. to load, well then just download and host it your self. Not being able to figure that out was how I found this plugin
Mainly useful for slow scripts.
